A transfer moves who manages your domain — it’s not the same as our free hosting bundle. That complimentary bundle only comes with a new domain registered through us for R99/year. If you transfer an existing domain or keep it elsewhere, connecting it to hosting is still R49/year.
FAQ – Domain, DNS & Fees
A few honest answers before you decide.
What’s the difference between transferring, connecting, and registering?
Three different actions, three different prices. Transfer (R29 once-off) just moves management of a domain you already own to us — it doesn’t touch your hosting or DNS. Connect (R49/year) is the DNS work that points any domain you own — whether it’s transferred to us or still sitting with another provider — at your free hosting. Register a new domain (R99/year) is different again: because it’s a brand-new domain bought through us, the R49 connection fee is waived and hosting is bundled in from day one.
If I transfer my domain for R29, do I get free hosting connection too?
No — transferring and connecting are billed separately. The R29 transfer fee only moves your domain’s management to us; it doesn’t include DNS setup or the hosting connection. To point a transferred (or any existing) domain at your free WordPress hosting, the R49/year connection fee still applies. Only domains registered new through us for R99/year get that connection complimentary.
What does the R49 yearly connection fee actually cover?
DNS management + server overhead + domain tie-in. The R49 covers the custom DNS zone, record updates (A, CNAME, MX), and the infrastructure to keep your domain pointed to your free WordPress hosting. It also includes a small contribution toward server resource reservation — so your site stays responsive.
Why is connecting an existing domain not free too?
Because that domain wasn’t bought through us. When you register a new domain with us for R99/year, we can bundle the connection in because we’re already earning the registration. When you bring a domain from elsewhere — transferred or not — connecting it is separate work, billed at R49/year (about R4.08/month). It also helps filter out abandoned or squatted domains and keeps support focused on active site owners.
Are there any hidden server or DNS costs?
None. Whichever path you take, the yearly fee you’re quoted is all-inclusive — DNS hosting, record maintenance, and domain mapping. No per-query fees, no traffic surcharges, and no surprise renewal hikes.
